Worship participation
One of the things that makes worship at Hope Central Church so special is the organic way in which worship represents the whole community. Won't you consider signing up to help with worship one of these Sundays soon? Whether it is greeting folk as they arrive, sharing our beloved Hope Welcome Statement, reading scripture or chanting the Psalm, offering a word about giving through our gifts of time talent and treasure, or praying with the pastor during communion -- your participation will be a gift to all.
We've just launched a new signup system for worship participation. It involves editing a document right here on hopeboston.org, instead of going to a separate wiki site. Just follow this link then follow the directions:
Once you've signed up,the church office will email you during the week before your chosen Sunday to confirm. Please contact the office, office@hopeboston.org or 617-522-0600, with any questions you might have.
Here's a description of the various participation roles that you can choose:
1) Greeter: Get to church around 5 p.m., greet people at the door, and distribute bulletins.
2) Welcome Reader: Read the welcome and, if you like, help to serve communion.
3) Psalmist: Get to church a little early to go over the psalm with Jeanne or Todor, sing the psalm, and, if you like, help to serve communion.
4) Scripture Reader: Read the day's scripture lesson, and, if you like, help to serve communion.
5) Offering Helper: Go to the podium at the end of the hymn after the sermon, share a thought about giving, distribute the offering baskets, and, if you like, help to serve communion.
6) Prayer of Thanksgiving: Go up to the podium after the prayer is said over the offering, give a few words of thanks when the celebrant says, "Now we give thanks," and lead the congregation in the Lord's Prayer. If you like, help to serve communion.
By default, people in roles 2) through 6) will also serve communion, but this is optional (just put an asterisk next to your name if you do not wish to serve communion). If you are serving communion, you are invited to say, "The bread of life" and "the cup of hope" when offering the elements.
If you have any questions about any worship participation role, talk to Rev. Wendy or contact the church office.
